Imagine you’re running a business helping clients identify what kind of creature lives in their basement. You go in with your team in search of clues to narrow the options down. But all the while, the creature’s presence whittles away at your sanity. Your goal is to figure out the type of creature before you lose your mind. That’s Creature in the Basement!
A cooperative game of discovery
Creature in the Basement is a cooperative board game wherein you and up to 3 other players enter a basement to find out which creature resides in it. Each basement is procedurally generated and hidden at the start, so no two basements will look exactly the same.
While you’re advancing through the basement, you will find clues and equipment to help you make sense of those clues. A clue might be unidentified markings on the wall, while the corresponding equipment could be a guidebook to decipher them. Each piece of equipment has unique instructions for identifying the clue, and with 3 out of 8 random clues scattered in the basement, you will find many different combinations of clues and even more different options for what the creature could be.
Two games in one
Once you’ve figured out what creature is in the basement with you, the second phase of the game commences. During this part, you will run through a scenario that is specific or that creature. If it’s a demon, you may need to perform an exorcism. If it’s an animal, you may need to capture it. With the many different creatures that you can encounter, you will find no two games are the same.
